Federalist Paper X

Author: James Madison
Purpose: To persuade the public to desire a republican government versus a democratic one.

Summary:
The beginning of the paper starts off talking about unity and how everyone needs to have a common passion so that they can rule with the majorities. Then he moves on and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of a democracy, mainly focusing on its flaws. In getting his point across, he begins to shed light on an alternative. He also discusses the advantages and disadvantages of a republic, but he keeps the light on the good. He provides examples for when a republic would be favorable to a democracy, and from then on, refers to the country as the Union. The paper is ended by a simple statement saying that a republic would be the best choice for the Union, and to join the Federalists in their cause.
